In this one-hour podcourse, Char presented how to do effective therapy for both the lateral /s/ and the frontal /s/.  She compared and contrasted the similarities and differences between the two speech errors and outlined helpful techniques for dealing with both.  She included insightful, research-based information about the /s/ and why some oral-respiratory differences can impact production and remediation.

Objective

By the conclusion of this podcourse, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the production elements of the /s/ speech sound.
  2. List at least three contrasting production elements between the frontal “s” and the lateral “s”.
  3. Describe three important oral-respiratory differences that can impact the /s/ production and the overall success of /s/ therapy.
  4. Explain and do at least three /s/ remediation techniques and tell why they are important.
About Char: Char Boshart is a therapist, seminar presenter, author, podcast host, and president of Speech Dynamics. She graduated with her Masters from Western Michigan University and began her career in the public schools. Since that time, she’s worked many years in the schools, in the clinical setting, private practice, and as an Assistant Professor and Department Chair at Loma Linda University.


Since 1993, she has presented numerous well-received articulation and language presentations through Speech Dynamics, SpeechTherapypd.com, as well as through the Bureau of Education and Research (BER).  She writes a weekly blog called “Therapy Matters” and is the host of the podcast, The Speech Link, and is the author of the well-received book, The Easy R.
